What is a Licence Server
A "CodeMeter Network Server" allows Licences to be shared between multiple users on a network.
Technically, any computer with CodeMeter installed can act as a network server, but usually a dedicated computer is chosen for this task, because:
- The licence computer should always be running
- For users connecting via VPN must specify the Licence Server's address in the mXrap configuration
- IT can adjust firewalls to ensure the server can be accessed by everyone
Note that this server should ONLY be accessible on the mine network. It is not neccessary to allow access from the Internet.
What can you configure related to the CodeMeter Network Server?
You can configure:
- Enabling and disabling the Network Server
- Network port numbers
- Access permissions, specified by:
- Computer names, IP addresses or subnets
- Microsoft Domain based users and user-groups
- Most importantly: Users can "kick" other users off to free up licences
How do you configure CodeMeter?
There are three main methods of configuring any CodeMeter configuration:
- For client computers, mXrap has some built-in options for specifying the Network Server's address
- For both servers and clients, the WebAdmin service provides a website that users can access via a webbrowser
- The
cmu.exeprogram - a command line program from CodeMeter
All of the options ONLY configure the local computer. To configure another computer (such as the Network Server), you must either Remote into that other computer, OR, use the webbrowser to connect to WebAdmin on that computer.
By default, the Network Server can only be configured from the local machine, ie you must Remote into the network server and use a browser ON that computer.
