Inrush data requirements
The data requirements for using this app will vary based on information currently collected by each individual operation. The general data requirements can be broken into three main categories:
- Design inputs
- Observational data
- Risk Management Data
Initial app set-up will be customised to each site and the general characteristics of each data category are summarized below.
Design imputs
(if not currently using the mXrap caving suite)
Configure the required survey and drawpoint parameters for the cave footprint.
Steps
- Survey Tool - Import required surveys of extraction level. Decimation may be needed.
- Collate drawpoint names, centroid (X,Y,Z) and drawbell name
Ensure that naming conventions are consistent across all data sources
Surveys should have as few vertices as required to avoid excessive computation time.
Observational data
Collate and configure the app to handle the site available data. Each data source relating to a drawpoint must utilize the drawpoint name allocated in the design set-up stage. Where data is captured in spreadsheets, importing requires documents to be saved as .csv files.
Ensure that naming conventions for drawpoints are consistent across all data sources
Risk Management Data
- Site specific risk matrices
- Risk calculations relating to inrush management including:
- Categories for fine material and risk rating
- Moisture categories and risk rating
- Categories for controls (e.g. automation, bunding) and associated risk reduction factors (if required)
Example calculations
Inherent Likelihood of an inrush event occurring
This risk calculation reflects the likelihood based on observations at the drawpoint and is calculated in this version of the app is shown below:
Fragmentation Ranking
| Category | Description | Particle Size Criteria | Ranking Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coarse | Predominantly large material | < 30% of material is less than 5cm | 1 |
| Medium | Mixed particle sizes | 30-70% of material is less than 5cm | 2 |
| Fine | Predominantly small material | > 70% of material is less than 5cm | 3 |
Moisture Ranking
| Category | Description | Observable Indicators | Ranking Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dry | No moisture present | No signs of moisture observed | 1 |
| Damp | Minimal moisture | Touch and slight colour change/smell | 2 |
| Dripping | Visible water drops | Water drips from material or brow beam | 3 |
| Flowing | Clear water flow | Clear water flowing from drawpoint | 4 |
| Inflow | Contaminated water flow | Muddy water flowing from drawpoint | 5 |
